Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian facing right, portrayed from a rear three-quarter perspective, conveying an imposing military bearing. The imperial effigy displays detailed rendering of the cuirass and paludamentum, characteristic of the provincial workshop style at Ephesus. A circular Greek legend surrounds the portrait field, naming the emperor with his full titulature. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of provincially struck bronzes of the mid-third century AD.
