Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Phrygian civic coinage. The emperor's effigy occupies the central field, with the laurel wreath visible atop the head. A Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan.

Reverse description The Latin monogram S P Q R (Senatus Populusque Romanus) displayed prominently within a circular wreath or laurel border at the centre of the field, a remarkable feature of civic allegiance to Rome found on certain Phrygian provincial bronzes. The surrounding Greek legend names the city of Philomelium and the local magistrate Marcus Julius Paulinus, running along the outer border of the coin.
