Leaning against the tree trunk at lower left are an Amazonian crescent shield and a double-headed axe (labrys), emblems closely associated with Amazonian mythology and the legendary foundation of Amisus. The composition is executed in the bold, provincial style characteristic of Pontic civic bronzes of the Severan period.
