Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (the Arab) facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear in the characteristic Alexandrian style. The emperor's portrait displays the military paludamentum over the cuirass, conveying imperial authority. The surrounding Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ ΕΥϹ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The relief is bold and the flan exhibits the irregular, somewhat thick fabric typical of mid-third-century Alexandrian provincial bronze coinage.
