Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Marcus Aurelius, laureate, facing right and seen from the rear, with paludamentum over the shoulder. The obverse legend runs around the bust identifying the emperor as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. The portraiture follows the Alexandrian provincial style of the early joint reign, rendered in high relief characteristic of Egyptian civic coinage.

Reverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Lucius Verus, laureate, facing right and seen from the front, with paludamentum over the shoulder. The reverse legend names Lucius Aurelius Verus Augustus and includes the regnal year date L Α (Year 1), corresponding to the first year of the joint reign of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, AD 161/162. This facing-bust type with its prominent date formula is characteristic of Alexandrian provincial bronze coinage struck under the prefectural administration of Roman Egypt.
