Reverse description Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing, stands facing with head turned to the right. His right hand rests at his hip while his left arm leans upon the serpent-entwined staff (the kerykeion of Asclepius), a canonical divine attribute. The figure is rendered in a static, frontal pose typical of Roman provincial bronze coinage from Epirus. The encircling legend ΝΙΚΟΠΟΛΕωϹ in Greek identifies the issuing city of Nicopolis.
