Obverse description Bare head of the deified Antinous facing left, portrayed with his characteristic thick, voluminous curly hair rendered in fine detail. A star appears in the left field before the face, serving as a divine attribute befitting his heroic status. The Greek legend ΗΡΩϹ ΑΝΤΙΝΟΟϹ ('Hero Antinous') is inscribed around the bust, identifying him by his posthumous heroic title. The portrait is executed in a realistic Hellenistic style typical of civic bronze coinage of the Pontic region under Hadrian.
