| Reverse description | Zeus Kapitolios enthroned left upon an ornate throne, his semi-draped figure rendered in the Hellenistic tradition; he extends his right hand offering a Nike figurine and holds a long sceptre upright in his left hand. The image reflects the local civic cult of Zeus Kapitolios as patron deity of Antiocheia ad Maeandrum. The Greek legend ΖΕΥϹ ΚΑΠΕΤΩΛΙΟϹ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΕΩΝ is distributed around the field, identifying both the deity and the issuing city. The reverse type is consistent with known provincial bronze issues of Commodus from the Conventus of Alabanda in Caria. |
