Reverse description Heracles kneeling to the right, engaged in his First Labour — the slaying of the Nemean lion. The hero is depicted wrestling and subduing the beast, a mythological scene of particular civic significance for Heraclea Pontica, which claimed Heracles as its legendary founder. The figural composition is rendered in the bold, compact style typical of Pontic provincial bronzes of the Severan period. The ethnic legend is distributed in the field around the central device.
