| Obverse description | Draped bust of Orbiana facing right, depicted as a young empress with hair styled in the characteristic fashion of the Severan period. The effigy is encircled by a Greek legend identifying her by her full imperial titulature. The portrait shows fine drapery at the shoulder and a diadem, rendered in the provincial hammered style typical of the Pergamene conventus. The legend runs around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Apollonis was a small Lydian city whose civic coinage depended almost entirely on the goodwill of the Roman governor coordinating its issues — the magistrate named in the obverse legend, Aurelius Tertullus, held the position of strategos, a title that by the Severan period functioned more as a regional administrative appointment than anything resembling its original military meaning. The city minted sporadically, and surviving bronzes attributable to Tertullus's tenure are few enough that individual die links across the series are still being worked out in the specialist literature.
