Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of the Conventus of Sardis. The emperor's effigy displays characteristic short beard and strong facial features consistent with his portraiture. The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The coin exhibits the irregularly shaped flan and bold relief characteristic of Severan-era provincial bronze coinage from Asia Minor.
