| Reverse description | The cult statue of Kore (Persephone) depicted standing facing, rendered in a rigid, hieratic xoanon style typical of Anatolian sacred imagery. The goddess is flanked by a poppy head to one side and an ear of grain (wheat or barley) to the other, both attributes strongly associated with her chthonic and agricultural cult at Sardis. The multi-line reverse legend distributed around the field names the presiding magistrate and records the city's double neocorate status. The composition reflects the religious and civic pride of Sardis as a twice-crowned neocorate city of the imperial cult. |
