Additional information

Apollonia Pontica, the oldest Greek colony on the western Black Sea coast, struck bronze coinage under Marcus Aurelius during a period when provincial mints across Asia Minor and Thrace were reviving — or in some cases initiating — civic bronze production following the administrative reorganization under the Antonines. The city's coinage during this reign is sparse, and RPC IV.1 #11784 lists very few recorded specimens.

Founded by Milesian colonists around 610 BC, Apollonia had a long independent monetary tradition before absorption into the Roman provincial system effectively reduced it to occasional civic issues tied to imperial reigns.
