| Reverse description | A mythological scene featuring a nude youth standing to the right, his left foot raised and resting on a cippus, with both hands placed on his left thigh; he gazes toward Zeus, who stands facing with head turned left, holding a thunderbolt in his raised right hand and leaning on a tall sceptre with his left. Between the two principal figures stands a small nude child. In the right field, an eagle stands facing right with head turned back to the left. The ethnic legend ΑΤΤΑΙΤΩΝ appears in the field, identifying this issue as a civic bronze of the Attaeans. The composition is characteristic of the elaborate mythological reverse types found on provincial bronzes of the Pergamene conventus. |
