| Reverse description | Full-length cult statue of Artemis Astias, the local tutelary deity of Iasus, depicted standing frontally upon a rectangular base, wearing a kalathos (cylindrical headdress) and a long belted chiton; the arms are not visible, consistent with the xoanon-type cultic representation known from Iasian coinage. The statue type reflects the archaic, hieratic character of the goddess's image as venerated at the sanctuary of Iasus. The ethnic legend ΙΑϹΕΩΝ appears in the field, naming the issuing city, with alphas featuring the characteristic curved crossbar of the Iasian die-cutters. The overall composition is typical of civic pride coinage from Caria during the Antonine period. |
