Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, with short beard, draped in paludamentum and cuirass, facing right and viewed from the rear in three-quarter perspective. The legend ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ encircles the effigy, identifying him as heir apparent under Antoninus Pius. The portraiture reflects the provincial Greek style characteristic of Ionian civic coinage of the mid-second century AD.
