| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, mother of Severus Alexander, facing right, her hair elaborately waved and secured with a diadem. The effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Ionian mint of Samos, with visible drapery folds across the shoulder. A beaded border encircles the type. The encircling Greek legend names the empress with her imperial title. |

| Reverse description | Hera of Samos depicted standing, facing front, wearing a tall kalathos (polos) around the base of which a serpent is coiled. The goddess is flanked on both sides by her sacred attributes: supports and peacocks, emblematic of the principal cult of the island. The reverse type reflects the importance of the Heraion sanctuary at Samos. The ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field. |
