His right hand rests upon a serpent-entwined staff (the kerykeion of Asclepius), while his left hand rests at his hip. The composition reflects the standard provincial iconographic type for the healing deity, rendered in a style typical of Carian civic coinage under the Severan dynasty. Attuda was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage under the Severan dynasty frequently advertised the local magistrate's title of Asiarch — a prestigious honorary office overseeing the imperial cult across the province of Asia. The name ΟΥ Κ ΠΡΟΚΛΑ almost certainly abbreviates a Roman citizen's full nomenclature, the Latin tria nomina compressed into Greek abbreviation as was standard epigraphic practice in the eastern provinces. Attuda's output is sparse enough that individual magistrate issues can sometimes be matched to a handful of known dies.
