Reverse description The xoanon-style cult statue of Artemis Ephesia (Artemis Polimastia) stands facing, rigidly frontal in the manner of the sacred image housed at Ephesus, her body swathed in a tight-fitting garment adorned with multiple rows of ovoids or breasts, her forearms extended horizontally. A stag stands at each side, their heads turned upward toward the goddess, framing the central figure. The legend ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ arcs around the upper field within a dotted border, identifying the issuing city of Hierapolis in Phrygia.
