Obverse description Draped and diademed bust of Otacilia Severa, wife of Philip I, facing right, rendered in the provincial style typical of Asia Minor civic coinage. The effigy presents the empress with characteristic Severan-period portraiture, her hair elaborately dressed and secured by a diadem. The encircling Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the subject by her imperial titulature. The flan is somewhat irregular and the surfaces exhibit the encrustation common to bronze issues of the Ionian conventus.

Reverse description Heracles, the mythological patron hero of Erythrae, depicted standing facing right, his body rendered in a powerful, muscular pose characteristic of provincial bronze coinage. He raises his knotted club aloft in his right hand, while his left arm supports or drapes the Nemean lion skin — the emblematic attributes of his legendary labours. The encircling Greek legend distributed around the field records the eponymous strategos under whose magistracy the coin was struck, affirming the civic pride of the Erythraean community.
