| Reverse description | The enthroned figure of Cybele, the Great Mother goddess, is depicted seated left upon a high-backed throne, her right hand extended holding a patera and her left elbow resting upon a tympanum (drum). A lion, the sacred animal of Cybele, is shown recumbent to the left at her feet. The composition reflects the standard iconographic type for Cybele widely employed in Ionian civic coinage of the third century AD. The reverse legend encircles the design in the outer field. |
