| Obverse description | Bare-headed cuirassed bust of Lucius Verus, draped with paludamentum, facing right and presented from the rear in the so-called heroic three-quarter back view. The emperor's features are rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Lydian civic coinage of the Antonine period. The encircling legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Λ ΑΥΡ ΒΗΡοϹ ϹΕΒΑϹ, identifying the co-emperor by his abbreviated titulature. |

| Additional information |
Hierocaesarea was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage depended almost entirely on imperial favor for its justification. The years 163–165 coincide with the opening campaigns of the Parthian War, when Lucius Verus nominally commanded Roman forces in the East — a period of intense loyalty signaling among provincial cities competing for Roman attention and the right to strike bronze.
The city's name preserved a double claim: the "Hiero" element referencing a celebrated sanctuary of Artemis Persica, whose priesthood held unusual autonomy under Roman administration.
