| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Marcus Aurelius, with long beard, draped and cuirassed, facing right and seen from the rear, the emperor portrayed in the mature Antonine style characteristic of his joint reign. The obverse legend, partially preserved, reads ΑΥ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝ[...], identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature in Greek. The portrait displays the distinctive philosophical physiognomy associated with Marcus Aurelius, rendered in the provincial engraving tradition of the Lydian conventus. |
