| Reverse description | Cult statue of Artemis of Ephesus (Ephesia) standing facing, depicted in the distinctive hieratic xoanon form with supports flanking the lower body and wearing a kalathos (cylindrical polos crown) upon her head. The goddess is shown with multiple rows of oval protuberances on her torso, her arms extended horizontally in the traditional Ephesian manner. A stag stands to either side of the cult figure, serving as her sacred animal attributes. The ethnic legend ϹΥΝΝΑΔΕΩΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing city of Synnada in Phrygia. |
