| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter view typical of later Roman provincial coinage. The youthful imperial effigy displays a radiate laurel wreath and articulated paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, with cuirass details visible below. The Greek legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan, framing the portrait within the field. The style is consistent with Smyrnaean civic workshop production of the mid-third century AD. |
