| Reverse description | A warrior, identified in the numismatic tradition as Ares or a heroic military figure, advancing to the right with right hand raised and carrying a shield on the left arm, with the left foot placed upon a ship's prow (rostrum), symbolising naval power and the maritime heritage of Samos. The figure is rendered in the vigorous provincial style characteristic of Ionian civic bronze coinage of the Severan and Gordian periods. The ethnic legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field, affirming the civic authority of the issue. A dotted border frames the reverse type. |
