| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from behind with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Ionian mint at Samos. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan shows characteristic irregularity common to Severan-era provincial bronze coinage. |

| Reverse description | The mythological hero Ankaios (possibly), striding vigorously to the right, wielding a spear with which he attacks a wild boar emerging from a rocky cave at the right. A hound crouches at the hero's feet, participating in the hunt in a compositionally dynamic arrangement. The scene alludes to the legendary Calydonian boar hunt tradition as adopted in Samian civic iconography. The reverse legend ϹΑΜΙΩΝ appears in the field or along the periphery, asserting the civic identity of the issuing authority. The overall execution is typical of the provincial Greek bronze coinage of the Ionian conventus under Gordian III. |
