| Reverse description | The goddess Tyche, patron deity of Cyzicus, stands facing left in the centre of the field, rendered in full figure and draped in a long chiton and himation. She holds a ship's rudder in her right hand, resting it on the ground, and cradles a cornucopia overflowing with fruit and grain in her left arm, symbolising the prosperity and maritime fortune of the city. A multi-line Greek inscription surrounding the type records the name of the strategos under whose magistracy the coin was struck and celebrates Cyzicus' prestigious status as a twice-neocorate city. The coin surface is worn with green-brown patina but the central type remains legible. |
