| Obverse description | Bare-headed, cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander as Caesar facing right, depicted from the rear in three-quarter perspective. The portrait displays youthful features consistent with his designation as Caesar under Elagabalus. The circular Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan, reading Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟϹ ΚΑΙϹ. The die work reflects the provincial workshop style of Hierapolis in Phrygia, with moderate relief and somewhat irregular flan edges. |
