| Reverse description | A stepped rectangular altar occupies the central field, bearing the date inscription ΕΤ ΓΙ (year 13) on its face. Atop the altar rests the sacred conical image of Mount Argaeus, the holy volcanic peak venerated at Caesarea, depicted in its characteristic stylized form and flanked by vegetation or trees on either side. The peripheral Greek legend names Caesarea as metropolis and provides the civic era date. The overall composition reflects the deeply rooted local cult of Mount Argaeus, a defining reverse type of Cappadocian provincial coinage throughout the imperial period. |
