| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Commodus facing right, with a pronounced long beard characteristic of his later portraiture. The effigy displays careful rendering of the laurel wreath and facial features in the provincial Greek style. The obverse legend in Greek characters runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The portrait exhibits the slightly idealized yet recognizable physiognomy associated with Commodan provincial coinage of the Ephesian conventus. |
