Reverse description The Emperor, clad in full military dress, stands facing with head turned to the left, holding a patera in his extended right hand and a sword in his left. Behind him, the syncretic deity Sarapis, distinguished by his characteristic kalathos (modius crown), chiton, and himation, stands and crowns the emperor with a wreath held in his right hand, while his left hand holds a tall sceptre. The scene evokes divine legitimation of imperial authority, a favored theme in Bithynian provincial coinage. The reverse legend is inscribed in the field identifying the civic authority of Nicaea.
