| Reverse description | Apollo Klarios, the tutelary deity of Colophon, depicted seated to the left upon an omphalos or throne, his body draped in himation. In his extended right hand he holds a laurel branch, while his left arm supports a kithara (lyre) resting on his knee. The figure is rendered in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Ionian civic coinage of the Severan period. The encircling Greek legend identifies the issuing magistrate and the civic authority, set within a beaded border. |
