Reverse description A prominent coiled serpent fills the reverse field, depicted rearing upright with its body rendered in multiple sinuous coils and its head raised toward the upper right. This serpent type is a well-known symbol associated with the civic and religious iconography of Augusta Traiana in Thrace. The reverse legend AYΓOYCTHC TPAIANHC runs around the periphery, identifying the issuing city. The serpent is rendered in a bold, stylized provincial manner characteristic of Thracian civic bronzes of the Severan period.
