| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Vitellius facing right, rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style with characteristic portraiture of the short-reigned emperor. The surrounding Greek legend, partially visible around the periphery of the flan, reads ΩΛΟΥ ΟΥΙΤ ΚΑΙΣ ΣΕΒ ΓΕΡΜ ΑΥΤ, abbreviating the full imperial titulature of Aulus Vitellius Caesar Augustus Germanicus Imperator. The coin is struck on an irregular flan showing typical characteristics of Alexandrian bronze coinage of the first century AD. |
