Reverse description Amazon Smyrna, the eponymous founder and personification of the city, depicted standing facing left in full figure at center field. She holds a patera in one hand and a double axe (labrys) in the other, with a pelta shield and chlamys also rendered as attributes, reflecting her martial Amazonian identity. The reverse legend, arranged in multiple lines around the periphery within a beaded border, records the city's triple neocorate status and the name of the presiding strategos. The composition is typical of the ambitious civic iconography favored by Smyrna during the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus.
