Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Volusian facing right, depicted from the rear, presenting a three-quarter back view characteristic of provincial coinage of this period. The emperor's paludamentum and muscled cuirass are rendered in relief, conveying imperial military authority. A Greek legend encircles the bust along the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The die work is typical of a Carian provincial workshop, with bold, if somewhat roughly executed, portraiture.
