| Reverse description | Apollo Klarios, the principal deity of the famous oracular sanctuary near Colophon, seated to the left upon an ornate throne or omphalos, holding a laurel branch in his extended right hand and a lyre resting against his left arm. The figure is rendered in a dignified, hieratic style befitting the god's oracular function, and the type closely follows the well-established civic coinage tradition of Colophon celebrating their preeminent cult. The encircling legend, divided around the field, names the local magistrate and the civic ethnic of the Colophonians. |
