Reverse description Apollo Klarios, the celebrated oracular deity venerated at the sanctuary near Colophon, depicted seated to the left upon a throne or omphalos. In his extended right hand he holds a laurel branch, and in his left a lyre, attributes emblematic of his prophetic and artistic domains. The figure is rendered in a provincial style consistent with Ionian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The Greek magistrate legend surrounds the type, referencing the local strategos or archon Publius Aelius Attikos under whose authority the issue was struck.
