Reverse description An emperor, identified as Septimius Severus or possibly Caracalla, mounted on horseback and advancing to the right, his right arm raised in a gesture of salute or adlocutio. The horse is depicted in a prancing pose. A circular Greek legend naming the local archon and the civic ethnic of Otrus surrounds the equestrian scene.

Additional information

Otrus was a minor Phrygian city whose civic coinage depended entirely on the prestige of a local magistrate willing to sponsor the issue — the archon Nigrenos named in the legend is the reason this coin exists at all. Such magistrate-sponsored bronzes from the Apamean conventus are sparsely documented, and V.2#1093 is among the fewer-cited references in the series, suggesting limited surviving die evidence for this particular pairing of emperor and official.
