Reverse description Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess, enthroned and seated left upon a high-backed throne, holding a patera in her extended right hand and resting her left arm upon a tympanum. A lion, sacred to Cybele, crouches at her feet to the left. The composition reflects the strong Anatolian religious identity of Metropolis in Ionia, where the cult of Cybele held particular prominence. The encircling Greek legend names the issuing civic authority.
