| Reverse description | Roma personified seated left upon a shield, helmeted and in military attire, holding a spear in her left hand. In her extended right hand she supports an eagle upon which stand two small figures representing the deified parents of Philip I, an iconographic reference to the imperial dynastic cult. The bilingual legend ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ ΚΟΛΩΝΙΑϹ in the field is accompanied by the Latin senatorial mark S C, attesting to the colonial status of Philippopolis and senatorial authorization of the issue. |
