Reverse description The xoanon-type cult statue of Artemis Klaria depicted standing facing, rendered in the characteristic hieratic frontal posture associated with the sanctuary at Claros near Colophon. The goddess is shown in the traditional poly-mastoid or polos-crowned form, with arms extended outward at the sides in the archaic idol style. The encircling Greek legend names the local strategos Aurelius Capitolinus and identifies the issuing civic authority of Colophon. The reverse field is heavily worn but the iconic silhouette of the cult image remains clearly legible.
