| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I facing right, depicted from the rear in a three-quarter view, with the emperor bearing a large oval shield decorated with a gorgoneion (Medusa head) on his left arm and a spear levelled forward in his right hand. The effigy presents a martial composition characteristic of the military emperor typology popularised during the mid-third century. The Greek legend encircles the bust along the periphery of the field. |
