| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed in three-quarter rear view, a presentation characteristic of later provincial coinage. The imperial effigy displays the paludamentum draped over the cuirass, conveying both civic and military authority. The encircling Greek legend runs along the outer field, naming the emperor with his full titulature. The die work reflects the provincial engraving style of the Ionian mint at Magnesia ad Maeandrum, with bold, if somewhat rough, modelling of the portrait. |
