Additional information

Samos struck bronze coinage under Gordian III as part of the broader civic minting activity permitted to Greek cities within the Roman provincial system — a privilege that allowed communities to produce small-denomination bronze for local exchange while Rome controlled the silver. The Samian issues of this period are relatively modest in output and survive unevenly, with many examples showing significant die wear consistent with extended local use.

The reference VII.1#581.2 places this piece within Konrad Kraft's corpus of Samian bronzes, a classification system that remains the standard for this mint despite its age.
