| Reverse description | Demeter, the goddess of grain and fertility, seated in a biga drawn by two serpents and advancing to the right, holding a blazing torch in each hand. The composition is a distinctive iconographic type associated with chthonic and agricultural cult imagery in Lydian civic coinage. The serpent-drawn biga is rendered in low relief with a visible wheel beneath the goddess. The magistrate's name and ethnic legend are disposed around the field in Greek characters. The overall style reflects the provincial workshop traditions of the Smyrna conventus. |
