Reverse description Ares, the god of war, stands facing with head turned to the right, clad in military attire including a crested helmet. His right arm rests upon a large round shield set on the ground, while his left hand supports an upright spear. The figure is rendered in a static, frontal pose typical of provincial bronzes of the Severan period. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ curves around the design in the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea in Bithynia.
