Additional information

Nicaea's civic bronze issues under Caracalla were produced during a period when the city was actively competing with Nicomedia for provincial prestige — a rivalry that shaped which emperors received prominent honorific coinages and in what volume. Nicaea held the title of "metropolis" and pressed the point aggressively through its coin output.

The Bithynian provincial series is notoriously difficult to attribute precisely; V.2 references frequently collapse multiple die marriages under single catalog numbers.
