Obverse description Bust of Severus Alexander facing left, laureate, draped and cuirassed, holding a sceptre in the right hand and raising the left hand in a gesture of salute or address, the bust rendered in three-quarter front view. The imperial effigy is portrayed with fine provincial workmanship characteristic of the Cyzicene mint. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Greek characters, identifying the emperor by his full titulature.
